This is the general discussion board for all my students at the community colleges and universities where I teach. Whether it's a lower or upper division class, regardless of campus or institution, this is the place where you can engage your fellow classmates, get help, collaborate, or generally just get together. This section -- the General Discussion -- is for non-class specific information. It's here where we can post things about scheduling (non-class specific) or other general topics.
For background, the reason I maintain separate boards beyond those provided by you campus is that I often teach the same (or very similar) class at multiple campuses. This site allows us to do two things that the section-specific discussion boards can NOT do. First, you can engage students taking this class at other schools (for example, at the time I write this, I'm teaching History 11 at Fresno state and the same class (History 17a) at Merced College. The classes are using the same texts, the lectures and assignments are basally the same, and there's no reason why students at one school shouldn't benefit from those at the other. The second benefit is that unlike BlackBoard or UCMCROPS, the posts from prior semesters or quarters are not (normally) deleted, here. I will retain older posts which can function as a repository for current and future classes. This should allow you to go back through older posts and (quite possibly) find answers to questions you may have, today. Those who follow will benefit from your experience.
I hope you'll post regularly and become engaged with your classmates.
